Chad Benton had an interest in science and discovery from an early age – surrounded by animals and agriculture on his grandparent’s farm. He gained a passion for asking questions, the science behind the crops and giving back, which led him to pursue his bachelor’s degrees in microbiology and biological sciences from NC State. After graduation, Benton accepted a research position at BASF Corporation. While expanding his roles and responsibilities at the company, he continued his education at Virginia Tech, earning a master’s degree in agricultural and life sciences. Benton has been with BASF for more than 15 years and currently serves as R&D Associate Portfolio Manager. In 2015, he was honored with the BASF Research Achievement Award, and in 2021 as a CALS Outstanding Alumni. Benton currently serves as president of the CALS Alumni and Friends Society, a member of the Agricultural Foundation Board, and volunteers at his church in Raleigh as a music director and musician. He lives in Morrisville with his wife, Kara, and two children, Jenna and James.
