Bio

David M. Saravitz is a patent attorney in private practice in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Williams Mullen law firm, where he is a Partner. David’s patent law practice is focused on helping inventors patent their inventions in the life sciences. David was born in Scranton, PA and attended The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a B.S. in Plant Science with high honors. David then obtained a M.S. from North Carolina State University in Horticultural Science and a Ph.D. in Botany/Cell & Molecular Biology from Duke University. After completing his Ph.D., David worked as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Genetics at North Carolina State University, where he conducted genetic engineering research on enhancing the resistance of crop plants to plant parasitic nematodes. David then continued his career in agricultural research at BASF Corporation in Research Triangle Park, NC before beginning a career in patent law at a law firm in Raleigh, NC. While working full time at the law firm, David attended law school in the Evening Program at North Carolina Central University School of Law (Durham, NC), where he earned a J.D., magna cum laude. David resides in Raleigh with his wife Dr. Carole H. Saravitz (NC State; PhD – Horticultural Science), Research Associate Professor in Plant and Microbial Biology and Director of the North Carolina State University Phytotron. David and Carole have two daughters, Krystyna and Andrea. Andrea is currently attending NC State and majoring in Statistics. She expects to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in 2023.
